Supreme Court hears arguments on SC's congressional redistricting plans

Columbia, S.C. — The South Carolina Supreme Court heard arguments about the constitutionality of partisan gerrymandering in the state’s congressional districts.

The American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of South Carolina, and others filed the League of Women Voters of South Carolina v. Alexander in July 2024. Officials with the ACLU say their goal is to end partisan gerrymandering.

ACLU of South Carolina shared their thoughts on Tuesday's hearing, “As long as politicians can draw electoral maps for partisan advantage, our elections aren’t free.”
