Time Range For Action Alert:

In 2023, South Carolina lawmakers passed a dangerous abortion ban that is now in effect, banning abortion before most people even know they’re pregnant. This ban has had devastating consequences on the pregnant people of our state. The ban does not reflect public opinion because most South Carolinians support access to abortion.
The League of Women Voters has long advocated for reproductive rights and bodily autonomy for women—and all people. When women can't control their own bodies, they can't control their lives and are denied equal rights and equal opportunity to participate in our democracy. Reproductive rights, equal rights, and freedom in a democratic society are all interconnected.~Nancy L. Williams, President, League of Women Voters of South Carolina
To change this discriminatory law, we must show our strength in numbers and demand the South Carolina legislature repeal it. The League of Women Voters of South Carolina is proud to be a member of Repeal the Ban SC, a coalition of nonpartisan community and advocacy organizations from across the state. The coalition has launched a petition campaign to repeal the abortion ban in South Carolina, and we need your help.
We are working to collect as many signatures as possible from all 46 counties before the end of the 2024 legislative season. Because South Carolina does not allow voters to directly introduce ballot initiatives, the petition aims to demonstrate the wide public support for abortion access across the state and urge the legislature to repeal South Carolina’s current abortion ban.
