The League of Women Voters has as a high-priority, long-range goal the abolition of the Electoral College through our One Person, One Vote campaign. One necessary step towards this is mobilizing public opinion, and, in South Carolina, that requires us — members of local Leagues within the state — to get the word out about the issue and the need for change.
To help you reach out in your communities and your networks, here are three categories of actions:
1. Access presentation-related resources on our Google Drive.
Within this Google Drive folder, you will find:
- the PowerPoint presentation from the 2025 LWVSC Convention breakout session, which includes not only slides but also a script within the notes to the slides
- a standalone PDF of the script. This replicates the Electoral College Abolition Committee script, with two additions that reference South Carolina-specific information.
In that same Google Drive folder, there are also four informational handouts:
- sample talking points
- FAQs about the issue
- electoral and popular vote data for the 2020 Presidential election and
- info about the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
2. Connect with the LWV Electoral College Abolition Committee.
This committee created the resources linked above, and they're a great source of information and support in general. You can get on their email distribution list (and connect with them in general) by emailing abolishelectoral [at] gmail.com.
Among other things, they are willing to provide mentorship with respect to the PowerPoint presentation. (They're wonderful!)
3. Sign up for updates at the One Person, One Vote campaign page.
This campaign page has a variety of resources, including a video and a social toolkit, and it also has a signup to get updates about this campaign.
