Event Details
This full-day program will feature an AI and Democracy panel with presenters from USC's Artificial Intelligence Institute and three interactive sessions delving into how we can build our collective power through increased membership, use of League in Action, and collaborative partnerships. We'll couple lunch with facilitated table conversations on topics such as DEI, GOTV, communications, fundraising, and board development.
There is a $30 per-person fee, which includes coffee and lunch.
We will meet in the Center for Business and Information Technology (CBIT) conference room 101 on the ground floor. From South Beltine Boulevard, take Rosewood Drive and use the parking area near the CBIT entrance.

Please bring your cell phone and download LWV's League In Action app before you arrive. Help will be available at registration if you're having a problem doing so. To cut down on waste, bring your own reusable, filled water bottle.

AI, Technology, Elections, and Democracy
Gary Moore has been with the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law since August 2012. He is responsible for establishing the School of Law’s academic technology strategy and implementing technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and scholarship within the law school. Gary also provides oversight of information technology systems, equipment, and services for the School of Law. Previously the Assistant Dean for Information Technology at Hofstra University, he has over 30 years of experience in implementing academic technology strategy and technologies.
Matthew Saltzman is a member of the Operations Research and Statistics faculty of Clemson University's School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. His research interests are in optimization and computation. Among the applications of interest is redistricting, including analysis and construction of district maps. In 2020, he joined the board of South Carolina's League of Women Voters to support their initiatives related to redistricting in the state. He continues to serve the League on issues related to election systems and processes.
Biplav Srivastava is a Professor of Computer Science at the AI Institute and Department of Computer Science at the University of South Carolina which he joined in 2020 after two decades in industrial research. His work in Artificial Intelligence extends to applications such as governance - elections, water, traffic, health, and power. Together with experts in security, journalism, law, political science and AI, he has organized three workshops at major AI conferences and a special issue of the AI Magazine on how AI may help run credible elections with use-cases across global democracies.
