Voter Services is an essential part of the mission of the League of Women Voters.  Having eligible US citizens registered and actively voting makes democracy work.

LWV VOTER SERVICES ACTIVITIES

The League of Women Voters actively encourages and supports all eligible citizens to register, learn about the candidates and issues, and vote in national, state, and local elections.

The League  holds voter registration drives:
  • On National Voter Registration Day – the 4th Tuesday of September each year
  • In high schools for students, teachers, and staff
  • At community events
  • For the homeless
  • For those in trouble with the law who are eligible to vote
  • For those with limited mobility, such as seniors and those without access to transportation
The League informs voters about candidates and Issues:
  • Online at VOTE411 where voters can preview their individual ballots, compare candidates, and read about ballot measures.
  • Candidate Forums – Candidates for a specific office participate in a debate with the public invited.  These are generally at the state and local levels.
  • Candidate information brochures on candidates and issues in upcoming elections.
The League helps Individuals learn where and how to vote.
  • Helping individuals with information on absentee voting both by mail and in person.
  • Helping individuals get to the polls safely and using proper procedures.
The League helps voters understand how the 2020 Census may affect voting districts.
  • Once the count has been completed and certified, states can use this data to determine changes needed to balance voting district lines.
  • Any changes to voting districts will probably not be seen before 2022.
  • The South Carolina Voter Registration and Elections Offices should inform voters of any changes to their districts.
  • Voters can also check voting districts on VOTE411.org or SCVOTES.gov under the Voters heading.
